Gingerbread and Friends

The smell of gingerbread has been driving Daddy crazy for 4 days. Keeping him away from the house pieces has been a full time job. (He will have to wait for next week--when we bake cookies) This is the day that 7 kids have been waiting for. . . Decorating the gingerbread houses! We invited our dear sweet friends, The Walmers, to come share in the sugary fun with us. 7 kids (1 in high chair), frosting, gingerbread, and candy. A definite fun mess in the making! Anderson is poised and ready to decorate their assembled house. . .

Hard candies, jellied candy, chocolate, wafer cookies, lollipops, jelly beans, and left over Halloween candy. . .

This is how Ryan participated in the festivities: legos, friends playing peek - a - boo, and the occasional M & M. A very content little boy!

Notice that he is strapped in the high chair. With the girls, the tray was enough to keep them seated. Not this little monkey. One time when I did not strap him in, I found him sitting in the middle of the table pouring apple juice all over!
From then on he has been firmly strapped in!

Megan amazed me, she started telling me where to put frosting and then she put down the candies, in the end she made a "stone wall" around the house. I was so impressed that she came up with the idea all on her own.

A house in process.

Micah, Anderson and Mom (Tonya) line up peanut butter cups along the roof line. YUM!!!

Anne, Katie and Megan, almost finished with the decorating and approaching maximum sugar highs!

Our proud decorators! From left to right: Micah Walmer, Megan Gaskill, Katie Gaskill, Anderson Walmer, Noelle Walmer, Anne Gaskill. Not pictured: Tonya and Elisa (frosting applicators) They were so proud of themselves. I have to say that us moms were pretty proud of our kiddos. They worked together with their siblings for almost 3 hours steadily with no major eruptions! We all had fun and it was stress free. I guess with that much sugar you feel pretty mellow at the end.

The finished projects. They were so creative and we all had such a great time. We mommies then bundled up the big kids and sent them outside to burn off all the sugar energy. They played for 2 hours, came in, ate dinner and went to bed!
