85 degrees

Here in the Northwest we do not see nice, warm, sunny days at the beach all that often. Especially in May!   You can usually get a nice day by the time late August or September rolls around, but if it is windy--beware!  More often than not you are wearing jeans, sweaters and windbreakers at the beach in Oregon.

So when the forecast said 80 at the beach, our weekend plans immediately got changed and the Gaskill Family headed for the beach!  Like I said, it is rarely warm on the Oregon Coast.  This day, the first Saturday in May was 85 degrees ON THE BEACH!!  I don't think I have ever had such a nice day on the beach.  There was very little wind and we had such a wonderful day as a family.

Look, the kids are in swim suits and not shivering!

Then they went in the water, the little red head to the right is not one of ours, be such a cutie!

However, just because the air is warm at the beach does not mean that the water is!

they were in and out of the water all day, even though the water was freezing!

A look down the beach toward Haystack Rock.

Look, A Katie face in the sand.

Meggie and Daddy jumping in the waves.

Katie found a shallow pool that was warmer than the waves where she could swim.

After the kids turned into Popsicles from playing in the waves, we walked down to Haystack Rock to look at the tide pools.
We had a great day and took home some very tired kiddos, and a lot of sand.  Great memories made that day.
The weather stayed in the 80's for almost three weeks and gave us a great start on the garden.  Now, it seems that the weather remembers that this is Oregon in May and has gone back to 50's and rainy!  But we got a glimpse of what summer is will be like when it finally does get here.
