The Christmas Season

Tomorrow is Christmas!  My kids keep reminding me that tomorrow is Christmas.  (like I don't know that.)  The presents are almost wrapped.  Santa Clause is coming to Town in being played on the piano.  O Holy Night is being played on the tin whistle, Christmas cookies are baked and chocolate cherry almond bark is made.  We are getting close to being all set.  Perhaps tonight "Santa" won't be up till midnight wrapping presents and stuffing stockings.

So I realized that I haven't posted pictures of the things that have led up to Christmas.  We have had Nutcracker performances and Gymnastics Jingle bell Rock Meets and crafty creativeness for Christmas.

So here goes! (I'm still not really good at posting pictures and I am never sure what order they will appear in.)

This was Anne's second season of performing in Portland's Own Nutcracker.  It is the traditional Nutcracker, but with a Portland twist-- Not in the Portlandia way.   Keith Walls the director and dance instructor took the original Nutcracker and changed a few details such as instead of the Russian Mansion that no one knows the name of and changes it to the Pittock Mansion (and old Historic mansion in the Portland area.) Another change is that Clara and the Nutcracker prince go to the Land of the Carousel instead of the Land of Sweets.  Still the basic storyline, but with a bit of Portland Local history tied in.  It is a wonderful production.

Anne played 4 parts this year but was only able to get pictures of two of her costumes, because the other two costume changes came too fast.  She was a party boy, a soldier, a carousel dancer and a rose bud.

It was fun to see Anne progress this year and show more confidence and grace in her roles on stage.

A week after the Nutcracker it was Katie's turn.  She had her Jingle Bell Gymnastic's meet.  These meets are just to get the kids ready for performing in front of an audience, so there are no judges.  But it is a lot of fun to watch how they have improved.
She had not warmed up yet and it shows.  The gym is a little cool and they shivered until they started warming up.  By the time they performed they were all toasty!

In this meet Katie is in Level 2 and because she is the smallest she is the team leader when they walk out to present.

This little cutie was part of the preschool group--I couldn't resist!  She was so cute!

This is Katie's team watching the preschool and level one take their turns.

And now it is Katie's turn on the beam.  I need to learn to how to do better indoor no flash photography.  She has learned how to do jumps and can do a forward roll on the beam unassisted (most of the time).

Just finished a spin and jump.

Katie with her medal and certificate.  She was also invited to move into level 3 and to prepare to join the Excel Team which performs at fairs and parades, Blazer games and other local activites.

Here is the team.

Katie receiving her medal--again I have got to learn how to take better pictures in this type of lighting!

I also need to learn how to load these pictures to they come up in the order I want them to.  This is Katie doing her floor routine.
