Road Trip

My sister Emilie is 14 years younger than me.  That means that she was 4 years old when I went to college, she was 8 when I moved to California, and she was 10 when I got married and moved to Oregon, where I have been for the last 12 years.  So for the last 13 years or so we have lived over 3000 miles apart.  So we don't get to see each other much.  So when she took an internship in Cody, WY I took the chance to visit her.  I packed up Anne and Katie and invited an adventurous friend to come along (she also happened to grow up in Montana and so she knew the territory we would be going through).  We all piled in and drove and drove for a day and half to Cody.

Emilie was interning at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center as a Historic Conservationist.  As Katie later described it, Auntie Emilie took care of old stuff by spitting on it.  True, that one of the methods used to clean certain artifacts is a "mild enzamatic solution"  aka a q-tip with her spit on it, but sounds so much funnier when told by a 5 year old!

Here we are with Auntie Emilie in front of the museum where she was interning for the summer.  The girls called it Auntie Emilie's museum.

Katie has a thing for baseball caps, so she bought herself a glittery purple hat in Cody.  I tried to get her to get a cowboy hat, but nooooo.  It had to be a ball cap!

We also went to a Night Rodeo!  Boy what an experience!

Marilyn was our adventurous friend who drove with us, we found out that she has a weakness when it comes to cotton candy!

Technically these are bad pictures, my lens would not focus with the speed they were moving and the light fading quickly, but I thought these were cool pictures anyhow.

Another artsy, bad photo.

Sisters.  This is the house where Emilie rented a room.  It was built in the Frank Lloyd Wright style and seemed totally out of place.  The inside was totally eclectic as was the woman who lived there!

This little town "Belfry" was just outside of Cody.  This sign gave us all a good case of the giggles.

Gorgeous sunset as we left Wyoming.  It was a short trip, but so rich in memories.
