Whew! Fair week is over and it was exhausting, and we did not have to stay at the fair like some of the 4-H ers. Anne had her birthday from Friday to Saturday and then Juniper went to the Fair on Monday. That week Anne showed Juniper and the rabbit went through a conformation judging. We were back and forth to the fair a lot!
So now we have one more set of birthdays this Sunday (Ryan and Katie). School starts on Monday along with the after school activities--which have been pared down to allow more breathing room this year. So all that being said here is what our last week has looked like:
Still so dry. . .the bugs are not coming out, and the chickens are getting creative to find things to eat. AKA: they are busting down the fortifications of the vegetable garden and helping themselves to cucumbers, tomatoes, and other such delicacies! It is so dry that the cats are using the front yard to scratch on instead of their scratching posts!
Oreo is loving life on the farm.
We continue to paint the barn red, starting with the door. FYI: Chickens are NOT good helpers when it comes to painting. They pull off the tape before you are done and then they peck at bugs that get caught in the drying red paint and then smear it on the white. Also in that process they get paint on themselves, so we have some red breasted white leghorn chickens!
No chicken helpers in sight. . .finally got it finished!
Speaking of helpers, we got the kids a trampoline for their birthdays. . .and they all were really good helpers setting it up.
The girls at Anne's sleepover decorated vases and arranged flowers.
It is official: Anne's 11!
This is a jogging vest for Anne's rabbit. Have you ever seen anyone jogging with their rabbit?
Megan and Ryan got to set up a fort to sleep in during the big girl sleep over.
And the big girls thought that was cool and made a fort to sleep in for themselves.
Juniper in her jogging harness. And for those who wondered, no she did not start jogging. She seems slightly irritated by it, that and she looks like a ballerina!
This seems to be the go to picture for fairs and what not, where really big tractors are involved.
Goat brothers. . .
Behave something like human siblings.
We got smart this year and bought a collapsible wagon, to haul all the fair stuff and the occasional child.
Anne and Juniper just before show time!
This is showmanship. The kids and the rabbits are judged together.
Anne, Hailey and Brekken all won blue ribbons. That means they all showed mastery and capability with their rabbits up to the judges requirements. Good job girls!
Then Juniper when to conformation where the Rabbit is judged against bread standards and then against other breads who blue ribboned. Juniper won Reserve champion. Which means she was the second best rabbit in the whole show!!
While Anne had barn chores, we had ice cream! Don't worry--Anne got some later.
Rides of course!
Katie loved this one.
Megan and Ryan loved the Farris Wheel.
I love the views of the fair from up here.
Anne did not like this one.
Ryan tried to steal my cowgirl hat. Always the clown!
There is a Rodeo after the fair and it is always fun. Katie wants to be a barrel racer. . .
At home we took some pictures to send to the breeder we bought her from. Juniper checking out the plaque. . .
And the ribbons. . .
Apparently it all meets with her approval and she settles down for a perfect picture.
Now we just have to get through the birthday parties on Sunday and life shifts from Summer to Fall.
