The lazy days of summer are flying past us. I realized that I have not posted anything for some time. We have not done anything super exciting as far as vacation trips or what not, pretty much just stuck around home, but it has been a fun summer none the less.
So here is a run down of some of our fun this summer.
Oaks Park. At the end of the school year, one of the groups we are involved in provided a trip to the Oaks Park amusement park. Weather was fickle and we had sun, wind and torrential rain. Oregon weather is so fun!
I found this cute picture of the babies.
Anne's last ballet. She was in Cinderella. She is going to take a break and try other activities for a while.
Megan turned 7. Anne made her a hippo cake. Megan wanted a hippo cake. Mom tried to make one and got frustrated and Anne took over and it turned out great.
A swallowtail butterfly decided to rest under our patio roof. He stuck around for a few days and then was gone.
The 4th of July
Where I grew up the 4th of July was hot, no matter what. Hot and Humid. I can't ever remember wearing long sleeves much less a coat on the 4th as a kid. By the time fireworks went off, I was in my winter coat. Gotta love Oregon weather!
Regardless of the weather, we had a great time celebrating with friends, and we went to the parade in town. What a fun time. Kids came home with more candy than Halloween!
One dewy morning, the sun was hitting the plants just right and I ran out with my camera to see if I could get any good shots. I particularly liked this one and showed it to my husband who so sweetly said : "Why did you take a picture of that?" Art is completely lost on some folks!
The garden.
So I have to be perfectly honest. I staged these pictures. I weeded like a mad woman and then waited for the right light and went out to take pictures of my veggie garden. My garden doesn't always look this way. The day after these pictures, those pesky weeds were back with their cousins! The bugs are trying to win the war and the wind blew down the corn yesterday. But, I have these nice pictures to remind me that once for one day, or at least part of a day my garden looked like this.
It is hard to get perspective from these pictures, but these are monster pumpkin plants. I have never had them grow like this! If I were able to wade into the middle, the leaves came up to my chest. I am 5'6"! I am pretty sure that there may be some children swallowed up in there.
It doesn't look like this now. The broccoli is flowering and the lettuce is bolting.
My first tomato. The chickens got to it. The chickens now have shorter wing feathers!
Tiger in the straw in the barn.
Juniper. She went to fair this past week. She did well. I won't tell how well. . .that is for another post.
Jr. Miss. She didn't go to fair. We love her.
This was Cindy. He is now called Prince Charming. Young rabbits can be hard to tell boys from girls. He went to fair as well. He did well too.
Lazy bunnies.
Sir Firwood. He was supposed to go to fair, but he had a bad attitude and got grounded.
This is Cappy. He loves to run.
And Run and Run and Run!
Getting some time in the outside pen on a nice day.
Jr. Miss doesn't care for jogging. She would rather be carried.
Anne has taken an interest in cake decorating lately. I have had to start walking more.
We had a visit from some zoo animals.
Megan and Ryan participated in a sports themed VBS camp. They both won special awards for working hard at a goal.
Conjoined twin cucumbers?
Smiley face cucumbers.
And the seemingly always present shape blocks.
We have been at the county fair alot this week. Once we get some sleep, I will run a post on the fair and it's fun times.
